Give Me Your Heart

The Quilter's of South Carolina group has another wonderful project this year with quilts that will be traveling around the state. It's the Give Me Your Heart project. 6 members of my quilt guild have quilts in the traveling exhibit, including myself and my mother (Betty Adams). We were both very excited to be able to participate in this challenge.
You can view the quilts online at http://quiltersofsc.org/Heart.htm.
You can also request the quilts as a trunk show at your local guild or quilt show.

Busy Day Ahead

Today will be a busy one. I worked in the ER until midnight last night and up early today with my husband working on our roof. I've got some insurance policy stuff to do for my parents today, then I'm working tonight again.
Hopefully a few minutes in between to get a few stitches on my cathedral window quilt. My goal is to get it finished before our quilt show next September.

Wonderful Quilt Show

We had a wonderful quilt show this year as usual. Here are some of my quilts that were in the show.
This fall mantle runner top was made for me by my secret sister Sandy Yaggi last year. I quilted it while on my statcation this summer. I quilted maple leaves in the white areas. It looks great hanging on my mantle.

Pinky Do Dah is a very old UFO. It is actually the 2nd quilt I ever pieced. It was pieced in 1993 and I quilted it this summer. So never say never. I think that she turned out beautiful.

For My Love- was made from a collection of charm squares. For years I had participated in charm square exchange at our guild. I decided to do something with the valentines/heart squares. The vase in the middle has a piece of tatting from Charleston SC of a horse drawn carriage. This quilt is always drapped over a white chair in my dinning room every February.

The Fall quilt below is from a round robin type exchange in my guild. I made the log cabin blocks at the top and the FALL words. I also pieced 2 other blocks in the top. I love this top also, it is now drapped over the white chair in my dinning room for fall. It looks great in the same room with the mantle runner.
Scrappy Stars was started in a class in 1995. I pieced the stars in 1995 and finished the quilt this summer. I think it turned out great.

The last entry I had in the show was the Alzheimer's Donation quilt that I made for their auction. It will be auctioned off in the spring to raise funds for Alzheimer's research. It is dedicated to Roger's Uncle Morgan Chandler who died of Alzheimer's disease. It's name is Escaping Memories. The pinwheel blocks are slowly escaping.

And now I have to brag a little. My Grand daughter entered her 2nd quilt in the show. It is a 4-patch swirl. She pieced and quilted the entire quilt. She won a Blue Ribbon for her quilt. I'm such a proud grandma.
Happy Quilting,

What's Going On This Week?????

I've been working on my donation quilt for the Alzheimers Auction. Our guild has a challenge out for you to make a quilt to be donated to the auction. This is what I've been working on this week.
I've been running a lot of names through my mind trying to decide on a name. I then decided to add a tiny block to the escaping ones.

Do you see the tiny pink spinning block trying to escape??

Hence there comes the name of my donation.
Escaping memories. Doesn't that seem fitting for the Alzheimer's auction?

Standing across the room from the top on my design wall you really see the tumbling black falling out of the border.
I kinda think I like what the final product will look like.

Halloween Swap Progress

It's been a busy week this week but Mom and I have managed to get a lot completed on our Halloween Swap Blocks.
Here is my 9-patch for the swap.

Then Mom was able to get her 9-patch done.

These will look great with the swap. We can't wait to see the other blocks from all the swappers.
Then onto our other blocks for the swap. Mom chose ghosts for hers and I chose bats.
That is the Ghosts for mom's blocks. I think they turned out great. Can't wait to get one of those for my quilt.

A close up of the bat's eye's. Scary hugh! I had fun making these creepy little guys.
This Halloween swap is going to make a wonderful quilt. We should be able to get things in the mail to Jane by the end of the week. Now to wait on the swap exchange and that surprise package arrival in the mail!!

Quilting Heaven

Today is the 3rd day of my Stay-Cation and I am in Quilting heaven. Today is my 20th Wedding Anniversary. God truly blessed me with a wonderful man who appreciates my quilting passion. This is a wonderful vacation and I am so glad that we decided to spend our time with the projects we love to do. I'm quilting and my husband is building his dream garage. Adding 1800 sq ft to our existing garage so he can work on his antique cars. Old cars and quilts truly make a good pair!
I've quilted 3 projects and have the 4th in the longarm now.
Above is one of the projects that I've finished quilting. It's a scappy bargello using Bonnie Hunter's pattern. It finished in one day and was easy to quilt. I've attached the binding and now just to whip it down.

I also completed 2 quilts for my mom, first a scrappy butterfly quilt she made a couple of years ago and a 4-patch swirl from the class that she and my granddaughter and her took together from Lynn Busbee. We had a great time and hers turned out beautiful. I'll try to post a picture of it later.

This is the project that is currently in my machine. It is my gift from my secret sister at quild last year. She made me a fall mantle cover. I love it and hope to have it finished early this morning.

Mom, Susan and I went to Longcreek Mills and Mary Jo's yesterday....we had a blast. Spent lots of money at both places. It is so much fun to travel with friends and fellow quilters.

Better get back to work so I can get something else finished and loaded into the machine.

Happy Quilting,

Shelia

1 Day Until My Stay-cation

I can't wait until my vacation starts. Some friends will be dropping by during the week to quilt and have fun.

I will have 9 straight days to quilt, quilt, quilt! Who could ask for more?

My husband is working on the addition to his garage during the week also. We decided instead of spending alot of money going somewhere for our 20th anniversary that we would stay home and do the things that we love.....of course quilting is top of the list for me.

I'll post pictures of my progress through my UFO's for the week. I hope to get many projects finished during those 9 days.

One of the days of my vacation some of my bee friends and I are going to J-Creek Fabrics in Waynesville, NC and on up to Mary Jo's fabrics in Gastonia, NC. An all-day shop-a-thon.

I have so many projects that I want to get quilted so I can enter them into our quilt show Oct 3-4, 2009. I'll post more about the show later. It is going to be great.

Happy Quilting,
Shelia

Race For The Cure

Today we formed our team for Race for the Cure, Susan G. Komen foundation. I'll be walking the 5k race on September 26th. Please join me in helping support this cause. Below is the link to my pledge page. Will you help me support this foundation and sponsor my walk?

Thank you for helping us with research and providing mamograms to those in need.
Please help me by posting on your blog also so we can reach this goal. The lives of so many quilters have been affected by breast cancer. Thank you for your generosity and for passing this on to your blogs.

Landrum Quilt Show

Today Debbie Fenton and I went to the Landrum Quilt Show. We had a great time. The quilt put on a beautiful show which was held in an elementary school. They also had 16 vendors with beautiful fabrics, books, hand dyed yarns, beads, you name it they had it.

Isn't this just a hoot! The black birds looking over the quilts.

This one was beautiful called "I remember mama" You could tell alot of special love went into every stitch.

Sorry for the sideways photo, can't quite get it turned for some reason. It was a beautiful hand appliqued and hand quilted piece. Alot of love and devotion went into this beauty.

After the show Debbie and I ate lunch at a really cute restaurant. I hope that you have also had a quilty dad today.

I liked the little fellow above since it is so HOT today....in the 90's here. So here's to a little cool breeze.

Many blessings,

Shelia
